This is a object in Alone in the Dark 2.

Overview[]

This oarchment has been divided into two pieces of parchments: one half is located in the Billiards Room (along with the Crew of the "Flying Dutchman") and the other is found in the corner of Elizabeth Jarret's Bedroom, and guarded by a pair of spectral hands. Combine both in the inventory to merge both in a parchment which can be read.

Incription[]

Chess and Magik

If the white queen seeks the
throne, the king must empower her.
May the amulet laid in the centre of
the sign open the doorway to space.
That is the key to the royal gambit

Translator's note: This

Gaelic poem might have helped
Crowley to defeat Tartakover, the
man who fed the devil in the box
with gold.

Trivia[]

  • The names in the parchment refer to Aleister Crowley, an occultist mentioned several times in the saga, and Savielly (Ksawery) Tartakower, a famous Polish chess player. Both were avid chess players.
    • Aforementioned Crowley is not to be confused with the one in Alone in the Dark (2008).
    • Crowley was the surname of a character in one of HP Lovecraft's stories.
  • The royal gambit - more commonly known as king's gambit - mentioned in the parchment is a typical opening of chess. However it has little practical use if not to surprise and annoy the opponent, so it is rarely used by the most skilled chess players.
