Emily Hartwood is a central character in Alone in the Dark (2024), appearing as a playable protagonist alongside Edward Carnby.
She is voiced and portrayed by Jodie Comer.

Personality and Traits[]
Struck by grief and loneliness, with a history of severe melancholy running in her family and living in what seems to be generally dull and unhappy life, Emily is cynical, frustrated and apathetic.
Emily struggles to move on from the loss of her fiancée after leaving him to die alone in the Derceto Refuge, refusing to accept his horrible fate when he succumbed to the Spanish Flu. Refusing to accept this tragic moment in her life, she creates a false memory that he died a war hero in the trenches.
Appearance[]
Emily has dirty blond hair with a bun, and wears a dark yellow jacket with a white shirt underneath and a dark green skirt with long brown leather boots, appearing to be in her late 30's. Her face shows some aging with soft wrinkles and bags under her eyes.

- When arriving at Derceto, during the final cutscene of the Alone in the Dark Prologue, Emily mentions a dream she had in which her uncle hung himself in the attic, in a different place that is also called Derceto. This dream is the synopsis of the original 1992 game.
- Just like the one from the 1992 game, Emily sprints slightly faster than Carnby.
- Emily is represented by Temperance in tarot card.
- The card represents moderation and balance, the perfect harmony that comes from the union of dualities.
- The upright meaning is that in moments where there is anxiety or great stress, a person is able to remain calm throughout, who has mastered the art of not letting things get to them.
