Father Christmas is a central character in Jack in the Dark.

Biography[]

Background[]

Once upon a time, there was a jack-in-the box whose name was Jack in the Dark. He was so ugly and mean, that after terrorizing the toys that march in time in time to a drum, he took Father Christmas prisoner and kept him hidden behind The Little Shop, where he would wait for a Witch to release him.[1]

Jack in the Dark[]

One day on Halloween, he was found and rescued by Grace Saunders, who managed to seduce the evil jack-in-the-box with candy and scare him away, and Father Christmas was free at last. He gave Grace Saunders a princess dress as a gift. As she leaves the store, and the town lights up in joy, Santa greets Grace and flies away with his reindeer.

Trivia[]

  • Father Christmas is the traditional English name for the personification of Christmas, dating back to the 16th century. However, at the beginning of the 20th century, the distinctions between Father Christmas and Santa Claus faded away, making them practically the same figure.[2]
