It first appears as a book when picked up but, when read, it is revealed to actually be a contraption used to open a secret door in the Library.
The false book opens a passage to the Ritual Chamber within the Library by inserting it into the shelf that appears different. It is an essential item, for it is necessary to acquire the talisman and the dagger of sacrifice to defeat the Vagabond.

The book is found on a desk within the bedroom next to the Indian painting.
Trivia[]
- In the 2017 videogame, 2Dark, also created by Frédérick Raynal, there is a fake book that is placed on a special shelf to open the protagonist's secret office in a similar way to the one in Alone in the Dark.
