The gas can is used to turn on the movie projector inside the Saloon. It can be used on any side of the projector, Carnby will fill its generator regardless. After using the can, a film inside the projector will roll, revealing the shooting of a scene of The Last Ranger, in which the main actor of the film Billy Silver is attacked by a ghost. When the film ends, a horse walks by the Saloon, he panicks and storms off.
The use of the gas can is completely optional and is not necessary to make progress in the game.

It is located on the porch by the water trough in front of the Saloon.
