Alone in the Dark Prologue[]

Grace is making a paper mache mask out of what seems to be a manuscript when she hears a loud noise from a room outside, she goes to investigate. Inside the room, she finds a paranoid Jeremy Hartwood asking her if she is "one of them" and babbling that he needs to send his letter to his niece but is afraid that it could get intercepted by Mr. Waites, so Grace suggests to help him make the letter look like it isn't his, Grace takes the letter and fills with Emily Hartwood's address, but notices that it's lacking a number, she turns to ask Jeremy but notices he's gone, so Grace decides to post the letter herself.

Grace finds a key to the Stair Hall and moves on. On her way to Mr. Waites' office to post the letter, the Stair Hall changes right in front of her eyes, with an eclipse outside the window, and the whole manor looks changed, as if it was abandoned and taken by the elements. She goes down the stairs and is surprised by a creature that startles her. To avoid it, Grace pushes a stuffed bear into the water to use as a "bridge". As she gets to the other side, she notices more of those creatures coming to her, so she runs to the waiting room and shuts the door behind her.

She crawls through a small window to the clerk's office to post the letter, and as she leaves the letter on the table, she hears a noise in the dark, and ignores it, and as Grace turns her back, a giant creature emerges from the shadows and plunges at her, and the screen turns to black.

  1. Alone in the Dark remake creators already planning on releasing the Grace demo - "And yeah, it was actually pretty easy because the person that you play in that playable teaser, that was called Jack in the Dark, was a kid called Grace, and she appears in Alone in the Dark 2. And we had already brought Grace back into our game as a patient at Derceto. And so it was like yeah, this is easy, we can make her the protagonist, you can run around and be her for a while, and if you play, you get to see a little bit of Derceto, you kind of get the feeling, and the mood, and the sense of how the player will feel".
  2. Alone in the Dark Prologue Steam page - "This stand-alone prologue puts you in the tiny shoes of Grace Saunders – an 11-year-old girl delivering a letter, when things go horribly wrong… Experience the unique 1920s horror atmosphere of Alone in the Dark and prepare for the terror that awaits in Derceto Manor"
