Chapter 1[]
After receiving no answer on the door, the protagonist reaches the kitchen garden through the garage and goes around the manor from inside to open the door.
Chapter 2[]
Emily stops to smoke some perique and stumbles upon Magdalene performing a voodoo ritual, burying a mummified cat. She says the roots in Derceto have power. Emily tells her she thinks that the place is cursed, to which Magdalene replies that Derceto isn't cursed or blessed but a battleground with several players with high stakes, and advises Emily to get her uncle out of Derceto sooner than later. She gets up, wipes off the dirt and returns to the kitchen to look after her gombo.[Note 1]
The kitchen garden is where one of the broken plates is stashed. A ladder next to the tool shed can be tipped to the side and create a shortcut to the piazza.
