The Revolver is a weapon featured in the Alone in the Dark series, being the most prominent firearm in the series. It appears in all the 90's trilogy titles, The New Nightmare and Alone in the Dark (2024).
90's Trilogy[]
Alone in the Dark[]
The revolver can be found in a side room in Derceto's kitchen by examining the pile of coal, in which will be recovered a shoe box with the gun and some bullets inside. The revolver initially contains 6 bullets, to which 12 more can be added in the Cellar and the dresser of one of the guest bedrooms on the first floor.
Despite the difficult aim and low rate of fire, the revolver can be a good way to fight enemies. The reloading lacks an animation, which is done by using the bullets in the inventory, instantly loading the gun.
Alone in the Dark 2[]
The revolver is available in Carnby's inventory at the very beginning start of the game with 6 bullets in its cylinder. Although there is a button to reload in the Inventory Menu, there is no ammo to be found in the game, so it is recommended to make the best of it when possible. The weapon is eventually lost after the detective falls into a ravine after crossing the Hedge Maze.
Alone in the Dark 3[]
Just like in the previous game, Carnby starts off with the revolver (named in-game as .38 special) in his inventory with 6 bullets in the cylinder. These 6 bullets are all the ammo that there is to use, so they should be used sparingly. However, it is not the most appropriate weapon, since it causes very low damage and is completely useless in higher difficulties as it runs out of ammo before defeating even the first enemy.
Carnby eventually loses the .38 special after he is ambushed and killed by the Elwood Brothers.

The revolver is Edward Carnby's weapon of choice and the first made available in the game.
Description[]
Edward's revolver is a Colt Detective Special. It carries 6 bullets in the cylinder with low but efficient firepower and quick rate of fire. Edward can carry a maximum of 24 spare bullets, which can be found scattered around the environment or inside containers such as chests, trashcans, lockers and others.
Trivia[]
- The revolver's 3D model is exactly the same in the whole 90's trilogy, changing only the colors of the plating and grip.
- The revolver's design in the 90's trilogy is based on the Colt Detective Special.
- At the very beginning of Alone in the Dark 3, as Edward Carnby is entering Slaughter Gulch, the player can shoot a can laying in the wall to the right. The player has up to 3 shots to hit the can without losing ammo.
