Hmmm... There's something missing. This article is a stub. You can help by expanding it. |
The Mystery Examiner is a newspaper publisher in the Alone in the Dark series, appearing as promotional content accompanying the first three games and as an easter egg location in Alone in the Dark (2024).
90's Trilogy[]
Owned by William J. Herbert, The Mystery Examiner publishes news on the occurring events of the games, always making them the main article, and events that followed in other issues. The newspapers also feature chronicles, small reports and ads for movies and various products (most of which can be found in the corresponding game), at a small cost of 5¢.
Neither the newspaper nor the publisher appear in-game, acting only as a framing device to immerse the player into the plot.
Alone in the Dark (2024)[]
The Mystery Examiner shares a building with a flophouse beside Pregzt Shipping Company in New Orleans. The current status of the newspaper is unknown and no issue can be found.
List of Issues[]
- The Mystery Examiner - August 25 1924 Special Issue
- The Mystery Examiner - December 22 1924 Xmas Issue
- The Mystery Examiner - July 4th 1925 Special Edition
Trivia[]
- There is some discrepancy with the date of Jeremy Hartwood's suicide. Whilst the magazine says it was August 25, 1924, Jeremy's Notebook indicated that it happened on March 31, 1925. Which could be an oversight by the developers, since the events of Alone in the Dark 1 and 2 take place in 1924.
